Hackers did not get any good data on F-35 Strike Fighter program
Pentagon officials are playing down reports that sensitive data on the Air Force’s new F-35 fighter was ‘hacked’ that appeared in a number of media sources. Originally it was claimed that sensitive electronic information was obtained by someone unknown entity but Lockheed officials, while confirming there was a hack, insist that only some unimportant maintenance and logistics information was compromised.
“They’ll have very little information other than how you maintain the aircraft,” he said. “They’d know, for example, at what number of hours do the engines get checked, or the procedures for maintaining the stealth coding,” but “they wouldn’t have information about key parts,” Lockheed said.
As always, there is a bigger story at play. The debate on a ‘cybersecurity’ bill continues on Capitol Hill and you can expect regular doses of ’scare stories’ about cybersecurity over the next few months.
