NSA doesn’t want cybersecurity. More excited to keep doing the same old
Well those who worried that the NSA wants to make more of a power grab than just listening to your phone calls can rest a bit easier. Unless it is some sort of double bluff, the NSA head has spoken out about a potential role for the NSA in the nation’s cybersecurity plan–”we don’t want it.”
Speaking at the RSA conference Lt. Gen. Keith Alexander said blankly ”We do not want to run cybersecurity for the U.S. government.” Instead NSA will continue their work protecting military networks and wants DHS to handle the civilian government machines.
NSA is far more equipped than DHS, according to most observers, but the thought of ‘No Such Agency’ taking such a public role in the nation’s cyberdefense likely spooked many of the spooks at Fort Meade. Far better to exist in the shadows chasing Al Qaeda and Rep. Jane Harman than out fixing some guys computer in a Department of Agriculture regional soil conservation center in Nebraska.
But the real cybersecurity plan is coming shortly. Rumors are it is on the desk of the President and should be announced soon.
